The club, as Banbury Spencer, first entered the FA Cup in season 1934/35, this was the club’s first season as a senior club. Their first game was at home to Hayes in the Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday 1st September 1934, Spencer winning 4-1 with Reg Wallis getting a hat-trick and Bob Kinder the other goal. Banbury have competed in the FA Cup every season since then except for seasons 1939/40 to 1944/45 when the competition was suspended due to the Second World War. That means the club has competed in the competition for a total of 86 seasons, playing 223 games, winning 103, losing 85 and drawing 35.

The 86 seasons has seen the club reach the First Round Proper on six occasions. On three of those six, the club met Football League opposition, 1961/62 Shrewsbury Town, 1974/75 Northampton Town and more recently 2021/22 Barrow. Conversely over those 86 seasons, the club has met some rather obscure sides for example Pressed Steel Cowley, Morris Motors Oxford, Osberton Radiators, Metal Produce Recovery Depot, Cowley, Huntley & Palmers Reading and Armitage 90.
Here is a summary of which stage the club reached over those 86 seasons:

Second Round Qualifying 23
Third Round Qualifying 8
Fourth Round Qualifying 5

The 223 games played has seen the club score 427 goals. Legendary Spencer striker Dick Pike has scored more goals for the club than any other player, 17 in total between seasons 1936/37 and 1947/48, the 10 goals he scored during the club’s run to the First Round Proper in 1947/48, where the club lost 2-1 away to then Southern League Colchester United, being a key factor in that impressive total. Tony Jacques and Doug Woodward stand in joint second place with 13 goals each.
