Banbury United 3 Weymouth 0

Banbury United 3 Weymouth 0

Banbury ease relegation worries with convincing win over Weymouth

Banbury took the lead from the penalty spot after 11 minutes after Declan Benjamin had been brought down in the area by Nick Jacobs. Robbie Maddox converted the spot kick low down to Nick Jordan's left.

The half was keenly contested with both sides having fairly equal share of the ball but it was Banbury who would take a firm grip on the game when scoring in the last minute of the half. David Stone flicked a great ball through to Declan Benjamin down the right wing. Benjamin then took the ball down the line and then cut inside and with the goalkeeper having to come out he paased the ball across the area into the path of an umarked Jack Ashton who had the relatively simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.

Early in the second half Adam Learoyd made a great last ditch block of a goalbound shot to keep United 2-0 in front. The game might well have turned out differently without Adam's interventon but as it was just seven minutes later Stone put a great ball through to Henry Rose and the youngster then competently lofted the ball over Jordan to notch his first ever Southern League goal.

There was now no way back for Weymouth and United played out the final 35 minutes without too many scares.
