Banbury United and Love Island’s Finley Tapp to lead cyclothon in aid of Children in Need

. Banbury United8 Nov 2023 - 15:05

Be part of our fundraising event on November 17th 2pm-10pm in the Banbury United clubhouse and please donate.

Banbury United Football Club is hosting a cyclothon in aid of Children in Need on Friday November 17th at its clubhouse at the Banbury Plant Hire Community stadium.

Over an eight-hour period between 2pm and 10pm, a succession of characters linked to Banbury and the football club will take to an exercise bike for a 30-minute stint each. Banbury United football player and 2020 Love Island winner, Finley Tapp, leads the list of names who will take to the saddle. People are invited to come down and cheer on the cyclists and to donate to Children in Need via cash on the day, or via a Just Giving page that has been set up. The bar will be open for refreshments.

"The Club wanted to do something to support Children in Need and to have some fun involving players and the local community,” explains Banbury United FC board director, Lisa Dixon. “As the Children in Need theme this year is to “be SPOTacular” and “challenge yourself” we thought a cyclothon would be a great idea. We are able to physically challenge ourselves while being in the warm and close to the bar!”

“Besides being a defender for Banbury United, Finley Tapp is of course a huge celebrity having won Love Island in 2020. We are hoping people will either come along and support Finley in person or donate to our Just Giving page,” concluded Lisa.

Finley Tapp said: “I’m really happy to lead the Banbury United cyclothon in aid of Children in Need and to raise as much money as we can for the initiative’s excellent causes. There was a suggestion initially that I do several hours on the bike, but luckily, we recently got drawn in an FA Trophy match on the next day and the manager says I can’t overdo it!”

People wishing to donate to the Banbury United cyclothon can do so at any time via this page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/banbury-united-football-club-in-aid-of-bbcchildreninneed.

More details will be shared shortly regarding the names of people who will join Finley. If other celebrities or businesses would like to get involved, please contact russell@banburyunitedfc.co.uk. The Club will be collecting for Children in Need at its home FA Trophy match v Nuneaton Borough on Saturday November 18th.

Banbury United competes in the National League North football league. Finley Tapp is a central defender who plays in shirt no. 5. He was signed to the club for the 2023-24 season.

The Children in Need telethon is aired live between 7pm and 10pm on Friday November 17th.
