United went in front in the 30th minute when a Josie Clark cross was dropped by the visiting custodian and Catherine Howse fired the loose ball into the net.
Four minutes later it was 2-0 when a long throw from Jenna O’Neill was headed on by Rachel Dunbar and then Zoe Boote to Jenny Hoggins at the far post who struck the ball home.
Southampton scored from a quickly taken free-kick just before the interval and put United under some pressure in the second half but Banbury defended well to earn the three points.
