United’s Ladies needed to win this game to keep alive realistic hopes of finishing in the top two of their Jubilee Cup Group Qualifying Competition. As Mansfield Road had won Banbury’s league at a canter with a 100% record and having beaten United three times already this season, there seemed little hope but this reckoned without the Ladies turning in one of their best performances of their season.

First half goals from Jenny Hoggins and Claire Allen gave United a 2-0 interval lead. Though Mansfield Road pulled a goal back early in the second half, within two minutes Rochelle Buick had restored United’s two goal lead. Midway through the half the visitors scored again but United held out gamely under a lot of pressure to win 3-2.

A win against bottom club Oxford City Blues in two weeks time at the Spencer Stadium will ensure a top two finish in the Group, with that a place in the quarter-finals and of course an extended season!
