Last season the Banbury Town Mayor made a special presentation of football kit to Banbury United (Sierra Leone) before the game against Bedford Town.
Banbury United (Sierra Leone) came about when Mohammed Ali Bangura, whilst visiting his home country, came across a group of young men playing football (without boots or kit). He was instantly drawn to them and was amazed by their enthusiasm and footballing ability. He talked to the players and it was clear they needed help to set up a team. Football is their passion and their life especially after the devastation of the Civil War. So Mo helped them to set up a team and named it Banbury United (Sierra Leone). Choosing the club name was easy as Mo has lived in Banbury for 16 years and his children were born in the UK.
