Whilst enjoying a well-earned holiday in Zanzibar, Banbury United sponsor and former player Matt Dixon, alongside Sara Santana, took the opportunity to visit Karatu Primary School in Arusha, Tanzania. What followed was a day that perfectly showcased the power of football to connect communities across continents.
Welcomed warmly by staff and pupils, Matt and Sara volunteered their time and donated much-needed school supplies - along with football shirts from both Banbury United and neighbours Easington Sports. It wasn’t long before the shirts were proudly worn and an impromptu “Banbury United v Easington Sports – Tanzania Edition” kicked off!
Matt had the immense pleasure of leading a football session with some of the boys and even the school’s headmaster joined in the fun. Laughter echoed across the school grounds as skills were shared, goals were celebrated, and friendships were formed.
The joy and enthusiasm shown by the children made it a truly special occasion, a reminder that football is a universal language, capable of bringing people together wherever you are in the world.
A memorable day for all involved, and undoubtedly one that will live long in the hearts of everyone at Karatu Primary School.
