United make further progress in FA Youth Cup after a narrow but well deserved 2-1 win at the Spencer Stadium tonight against Kidlington

Following their 3-1 away win at Marlow in the Preliminary Round, Banbury United U18s made further progress in the FA Youth Cup at the Spencer Stadium this evening with a narrow, but well deserved, 2-1 win against Kidlington in the First Qualifying Round.

Banbury went in front as early as the fifth minute when John Marron struck the ball low into the corner of the net from around 20 yards. Banbury had plenty of chances to increase their lead but failed to take them and this looked as if it might prove costly when Kidlington equalised after 65 minutes. However, within three minutes United were back in front when a corner from the right was put right under the cross bar at the far post and Tim Atherton was there to nod the ball home.

Banbury United will be away to Oxford City in the Second Qualifying Round, that game to be played during the week commencing Monday 1st October.
