Club Kit through the years

Cut-Outs to be displayed around the ground to honour the club’s 90th anniversary year

You may remember that back in November we reported that valued ground staff volunteer Roger Davis had used old advertising boards to make silhouette animals, initially to deter crows and rabbits from ruining the pitch, but which created so much interest with supporters that all sorts of animals were subsequently created and displayed around the ground.

Roger has now turned his artistic talents to creating cut out footballers featuring the many different styles and colours worn by Banbury Spencer and Banbury United over the past 90 years.

How many Puritan fans can recall the team playing in Green and White, considering that was 1931 unlikely! Who can remember United playing in Purple shirts and winning? Did the famous Scarlet and Gold halves on the shirts always face the same way, black and white photos suggest not? What about the silky blue and white striped shorts worn against Northampton Town in the F A Cup replay!

Roger commented “It has been great fun researching the various outfits and colour combinations and I am grateful for the information and pictures contained in the publication “The History of Banbury Spencer Football Club” and also the programme covers displaying the club’s colours in the “Ye Olde Programme” articles featured in recent club programmes.”

Roger would be happy to do more, particularly if BUFC supporters can provide details of other colour combinations. Most of the photographs of the early years are of course black and white making it hard to identify the colours.

A superb piece of work by Roger as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the club this year in 2021. They will go on permanent display around the ground soon and hopefully they will be of interest to supporters and visitors to the Stadium, once we return to some sort of normality and crowds are once again permitted at the ground.

There are a couple of additional photos below but a full album can be viewed by clicking here
