Dave has recently lost an uncle who had Alzheimer's and spent his last days in a hospice, and has a cousin, younger than himself, who is seriously ill with cancer. He has never done a run for charity but feels this is a very worthy cause.
Dave has been a Banbury United supporter since the mid-1960s and is a former Board Member and currently a volunteer who videos home games and prepares match highlights from the video, writes historical articles and does the stats pages in the matchday programme and assists with the club website. He will be running the event in his Banbury United shirt and hopes that will encourage the club and its wonderful supporters to get behind him and help him raise funds for the hospice, which like hospices up and down the country have serious funding issues to overcome at the current time.
For Banbury United supporters who want to sponsor him in the traditional way he will have a form (in matchday/media office) at Wednesday's game against Oxford City. The club is also organising a charity collection bucket around the ground that evening for Katherine House in recognition of Dave's Run. For those who like to do things digitally here is a link to a just giving page he has set up here
Dave commented “I am overwhelmed by the amount of support I have received. I initially thought I might struggle to reach a couple of hundred pounds but if you look at my justgiving page page you will see that supporters have backed me to an amount far exceeding that for which I am extremely grateful. It is quite a challenge for someone who will be 64 this summer but one I relish and I will be proud to wear my Banbury United shirt. Thanks for reading and any support you can offer.”
