Unfortunately, the pitch at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium has flooded for the first time this football season, following the biblical amounts of rain that fell in Oxfordshire on Monday and Tuesday this week. The whole Canalside area of Banbury suffered and water levels at the Club have been the highest seen in recent years – with unwelcome Cherwell River water having reached the admin office doorstep of the Clubhouse.
Luckily, the river level has since subsided and we are not confronted with any interior or exterior damage. Luckily, we do not have a first team home match until Saturday October 12th.
Aerial photography of our plight caught the attention of ITV Meridian News, who came to the ground to do a live interview on the 6 o’clock evening news, with Club Secretary, Claire Dumbreck. You can watch the clip here: https://x.com/CiaranFitz_/status/1839020233320968654
The Club is appealing for financial support to cover the cost of buying pumps, which, together with new protocols for operation of drainage gates and valves, will hopefully protect our pitch (and matches) from all but the most extreme rainfall events in future.
Please help us cover some of these additional costs to running the Club. Even a £20 membership, which can be purchased here, will make a difference and put a smile on our volunteers’ faces. For any larger donations, please email Carl via info@banburyunitedfc.co.uk.
