Banbury United entered two U11 girls’ teams in the Easington Sports FC tournament this weekend. The massive event, organised to perfection by our friends and neighbours, hosted 140 teams and 5,500 spectators in a glorious display of 6-a-side youth football in the sunshine.
Under the care of coaches Matt Limbert and Dale Stillwell, the two teams – ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ – of eight players gave everything out on the pitch.
The blue team ended up being worthy winners of the Plate Shield. The semi-final went to a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, with the girls winning 4-2. The final was a tense affair with Banbury winning 1-0 against a very competitive Cumnor Panthers.
The coaches were immensely proud of their achievements, and so are we! Well done girls.
