Manager Mike Ford made two changes to the side that had beaten Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday with Darren Pond coming in for Sam Humphreys and Ravi Shamsi for Conor McDonagh.
Banbury started the game well and were soon dominating. In the seventh minute Matt Peake-Pijnen’s run down the left saw him cut inside before shooting from a narrow angle with Garry Malone in the Dunstable goal knocking the ball over the bar for a corner.
In the 13th minute Tom Winters ran in from the left but the home custodian was equal to the Banbury winger’s shot.
Banbury continued to totally dominate the game with Dunstable showing nothing going forward. It was amazing and a little worrying that they were unable to turn their dominance into a goal bit it finally arrived in the 37th minute when Charlie Hawtin passed the ball across from inside the Dunstable penalty area down the right into the path of Jefferson Louis who stroked the ball home from six yards.
The final minute of the half saw Darren Pond get the better of John Sonuga on the edge of the home penalty area down the left but his curling shot hit the top of the crossbar.
Six minutes into the second half and Banbury were two up when a fierce shot from just inside the Dunstable penalty area down the left from Tom Winters flew into the far corner of the net.
Dunstable went as close to scoring as they did all afternoon in the 60th minute when a shot from the edge of the Bnabury penalty area by Daniel Trif brought out an excellent save from Jack Harding as he tipped the ball over the bar for a corner.
The game was effectively settled in the 69th minute when a header from Tom Winters broke for Darren Pond who found himself in space in a central position a few yards outside the penalty area and he lifted the ball over the advancing custodian into the net to make it 3-0.
Just three minutes later two Banbury substitutes combined to score a fourth goal with a low cross from the left by Sam Humphreys going through to Conor McDonagh coming in at the far post who swept the ball home.
United would complete the scoring in the 80th minute when a cross in from the left by Winters saw the incoming Pomd smash the ball home from six yards,
