REFLECTIONS ON YESTERDAY
24 hours after the FA Cup game we are very proud of what our supporters’ owned club achieved yesterday. We have had so many positive messages about yesterday’s game on social media, it is not possible to reply to them to all.
The day was a great success thanks to the hard work of a huge team of volunteers in the planning and delivery of the day. Everyone pulled together, people took on challenges, problems were solved, high standards were asked for and high standards achieved. Thank you to everyone who helped.
It was fantastic to see 2400 in the ground, thank you to those who came and supported, we know it was particularly special for long term supporters who have endured the ups and downs of following the team.
We also continue to receive incredible support from our sponsors and thank in particular go to Higham Critchley Burrows who sponsored the game and DHL and Michael Jones Jewellers who supported with additional kit branding. As ever our thanks go to our main sponsor Banbury Plant & Skip Hire, without their on-going support we would not be where we are.
Many different suppliers helped out to make the day run so well and particular thanks go Hook Norton Brewery for helping us put on an outdoor fan zone and Newman Event Services for their stewarding in and around the ground and car parks.
We met some proper football people from Barrow including the author of the much acclaimed “A-Z of Banbury United”. We wish them all the best in the next round of the competition.
We were delighted to welcome local and national media to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium and of course the cameras of ITV who put us in the limelight nationally and worldwide. It was a huge operation for ITV behind the scenes and their large crew were unfailingly respectful and friendly and never once made us feel coming to non-league Banbury United was in anyway beneath them. Their coverage was amazing.
It wasn’t to be on the pitch but we are proud of what the squad and management have achieved in getting to the first round of the Cup for the second year running and we know they are focussed on further success this season and starting another unbeaten run now our 19 match one since the start of the campaign has been ended.
It’s thanks to the commitment and support of so many that our club enjoy days like the Barrow game. We are very proud to represent Banbury and in return give the town a football club it can be proud of. Yesterday was arguably the biggest day in the club’s history but there is no time for reflecting on it and resting on our laurels. We to continue to strive to improve off the pitch to give us success on it and have more occasions like this.
