Hot on the heels of Tuesday’s reverse against Chorley, Banbury United are looking to bounce back on Saturday 23rd December with an away fixture against Warrington Town at their Cantilever Park ground, kick off at 3pm.

United will be looking to complete the double over their Northwestern rivals. In the home fixture back in early September, Banbury ran out comfortable 3-0 winners with two goals from Ken Charles and one for Aidan Elliott-Wheeler. This was one of our only two home victories in this calendar year.

United should be heartened by the fact that their away form has been the best in the National League North. Our opponents, the Yellows, have been a little inconsistent at home and hopefully we can gain another much-needed away win.

Warrington are newcomers to National League North, having won promotion from the Northern Premier League by finishing in second place and beating Bamber Bridge 1-0 in the playoff final at Cantilever Park.

They currently sit in 12th position in the league on 30 points, one point and four places above United. Much like United, the Yellows’ form has been somewhat inconsistent. Recent results in November and December have seen victories against Gloucester City, Rushall Olympic and Scarborough; draws with Darlington and King’s Lynn and losses to Scunthorpe and Hereford in the League and Blyth Spartans in the FA Trophy.

They have been boosted recently with the news that former Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom has signed a deal to stay at Warrington for the rest of the season. He has been away from the game for a couple of seasons but since his arrival, the Yellows have only lost two games in his 13 appearances.
