You may have read in the local media the Banbury Flood Alleviation scheme costing some £14 million pounds has been given the green light by the Government.
The scheme will protect the low lying areas of Banbury from that one in 200 year flood. The work on the scheme is planned to start in early spring 2011 and the Spencer Stadium will be the last line of defence, beyond the Stadium the Cherwell will be allowed to flood into the fields and meadows.
The club has been talking to our Landlords who in turn have been talking to the Environment Agency to minimize any disruption to our operations at the Spencer Stadium. So the main works behind the Kings Sutton of the ground should take place in our close season May/June. The stadium should look quite a bit different next season with a much smarter appearance. There will be a 2 metre high fence running the length of the ground on the riverside in front of the grass banking and a wall running behind the Kings Sutton end, extending down our main car park.
This is the first stage of an exit plan to move from the Spencer Stadium and relocate to a new site.
The club board will continue our dialogue with Cherwell District Council and our Landlord to make the process as smooth as possible keeping our Supporters informed along the way.
