The club wishes to advise supporters that due to changed work circumstances defensive midfielder George Nash has left the club

George joined Banbury from Worcester City in October 2015 and played a key part in the club’s Southern League South & West Division promotion campaign through the play-offs that season and then in consolidating the club at Premier Division level in subsequent seasons. In his four seasons at Banbury, George made a total of 181 appearances and scored six goals.

Manager Mike Ford commented, “When I was appointed I wanted my team to play with honesty and show integrity whenever they were representing the football club and this is exactly what George has provided in his time with us. George will forever be remembered for all the right reasons, his ability on the ball, attitude to the game and never say die attitude. Above all else George is a fantastic human being who I will miss being around. The travel due to a new job has caused him a few issues and we both felt that it was the right time to move on so that football can fit into his life more so than it is currently.”

George on leaving the club said “To leave such a fantastic football club, one that has done so much for me over the last four years, is an incredibly tough decision to make. A change in my work circumstances towards the end of last season, however, has made the logistics of travelling up to Banbury increasingly more difficult. This is a club that deserves nothing less than 100% commitment, and, sadly, that’s not something I can guarantee at this moment in time. I would like to thank all the players and staff; my sponsors Trevor Young, Leigh Rodway and Steve Clare, and all the volunteers and supporters who give up so much of their time for this great club. I leave with nothing but fond memories - both on and off the pitch - and the knowledge that I was a part of something truly special. The pleasure was all mine.”

Everyone at Banbury United would like to thank George for his contributions and commitment whilst at the club and wishes him all the best for the future.
