It was a deserved victory for United against their higher level opponents
Kelvin Langmead scored for United after 17 minutes when Ricky Johnson headed the ball into the box and Langmead was on hand to nod the ball home
United more than matched their National League hosts and it was only in the final ten minutes that Banbury were put under strong pressure - but the defence held firm to ensure it will be the Puritans who are in Monday's Third Qualifying Round draw.
For the record the last time Banbury beat a higher level side in the FA Cup was back in 1991 when the then Hellenic League United entertained Southern League Midland Division side Hednesford Town in a First Qualifying Round tie, United winning 2-1 with goals from Karlton Stratford and Wayne McDowell.
