Business owner Sam Stretton explains why supporting the football club is the right move

The Club welcomes back Logicom Hub and its incredibly supportive owner, Sam Stretton, as sponsor of Banbury United Women this season. The women’s team kicked off its pre-season campaign with a hearty performance, albeit a loss, against a strong Abingdon side on Sunday. Sam was there to back the squad as it embarks on another season in the Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League Division 1.

Logicom Hub is a leading provider of dangerous goods training courses (Hazmat) relating to the carriage of dangerous goods by air, sea, and road. The company is based in Bloxham and offers interactive courses via e-learning, classroom or in-house training formats.

Sam explained why she decided to sponsor the team:

“When I tell people that Logicom Hub is supporting a women’s football team, I get a look of surprise but an envious appreciation.

“For anyone that knows me well enough, they would not be surprised at all. When I was growing up, I played every sport that was available, swimming, hockey, netball, tennis, athletics. So, sport really is in my genes and had football been available to me I would have been on the left wing, I’m sure.

“Always an avid football fan, many trips to Manchester United and attending the South African 2010 World Cup to boot, I always thought that there was so much funding for football.

“It was only when listening to an interview with Alex Scott, I discovered the lack of funds available for women’s football. The England team individuals, already well established (but not yet trophy winners) had to scour the country begging for sponsorship as they could not fund the team. I was so shocked I began to wonder, if England women’s team do not have the sponsorship, how is the state of the lower leagues of women’s football?

“This is when Logicom Hub’s journey into women football began with a sponsorship deal for Banbury United, the company’s local team. Banbury United had just been through a rollercoaster time and were ready for building the future, with a new manager, new captain, and new focus.

“The first few games of the season were tricky, but by the end of the season, you could see a noticeable difference in the teams’ communication, understanding of positions and they had become so more instinctive.

“As a business owner I have always believed that “No human is limited”, especially when you work together as a team. We are looking forward to another season,” concluded Sam.
Team manager, Mark Andrews, is recruiting for new players. He urges anyone who’d like to join the women, even if they feel they are not experienced enough and would just like to join training and see what it’s all about, to get in touch. Banbury United offers a friendly, sociable, ambitious and competitive team environment.
