Martin Jopp, a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy, has been co-opted to the Board of Directors of Banbury United Football Club, in advance of the appointment being put to members for election at the Club’s AGM on September 19th 2024.
Martin has held various roles directing financial performance at higher education institutions, including a seven-year stint at a £1bn-plus university. His current role sees him lead the financial planning, management accounts, capital accounting, business partnering, and research finance functions at London South Bank University. He brings board level experience having been a non-exec director for two charities and two companies.
Wayne Farrell, Banbury United Chairman, said: “Martin has been supporting Banbury United for several months now behind-the-scenes and we’re delighted to have now recruited him to the Board. He brings a new level of financial discipline to the Club, in line with us raising the bar across all business functions. Martin has led the root and branch review of costs and income opportunities at the Club and ensures that all of us are intimately involved in the numbers associated with everything we do.”
Martin Jopp said: “Perhaps surprisingly, my role working for a university is quite relevant to a football club in terms of having oversight of the financial performance of estates and facilities, sports services, sports grounds, bars and catering. I moved to Banbury in January this year and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Club so far. Like everyone else, I can’t wait to see the action on the pitch, after an intense off-season reconfiguring the way the Club is run.”
Welcome Martin!
