Play-Off Chasing Puritans Prepare for Alvechurch

Worcestershire outfit Alvechurch are the visitors to the Spencer Stadium, powered by Egg, this afternoon as Banbury United continue their push for the play-offs.

Kelvin Langmead’s side extended their unbeaten run to eight matches in midweek, as a neat 73rd-minute finish from Joel Anker secured a victory over title favourites Harborough Town. The result moved the Puritans to within four points of the play-off places, with two games in hand.

There was also a welcome boost for United as captain Yaw Ofosu returned after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, providing a timely lift ahead of what promises to be an exciting run-in for Banbury.

Today presents another opportunity for the Puritans to strengthen their play-off push. With the visitors struggling for form, United will be aiming to make the most of their strong home record.

Tuesday night’s win also marked Banbury’s fourth consecutive clean sheet, while extending their unbeaten run at the Spencer Stadium to nine matches.

The Church

Manager Kyle Storer was appointed permanently in December 2025, having previously served as the club’s interim boss.

However, today’s visitors have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, winning just two of their last twelve league matches. Their most recent setback came on Tuesday night, when they were beaten at home by Stourbridge.

The run leaves The Church sitting 17th in the table, closer to the relegation zone than they would like. Although they are level on points with Barwell, who occupy the final relegation place, Alvechurch do have three games in hand which could help Storer’s side move clear and push towards mid-table safety.

There will also be some familiar faces among the visitors this weekend. Josh Dugmore and Tope Obadeyi are all currently with the Worcestershire side, having each spent time at Banbury in recent years.

Despite their inconsistent form, Alvechurch have won two of their last three away matches. Forward Tope Obadeyi leads the club’s scoring charts with nine goals so far this season.

Previous Meetings

When the two sides met earlier in the season, Banbury came out victorious with goals from George Ball and Connor Ferguson to win 2-0.

Typically, its been a fixture that has favoured United in recent years, the last five meetings have seen them win four of those, with the only draw 0-0 back at the Spencer Stadium, powered by Egg, in February 2025.
