Match Preview - Coventry United

. Banbury United8 Jul - 17:53

Puritans travel to Coventry United for first pre-season test.

Banbury United begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign on Saturday with a trip to Coventry United, as Kelvin Langmead's side take to the pitch for the first time this summer.

After guiding the Puritans to a 12th-place finish in his debut season as first-team manager, Langmead now looks to build on those foundations as Banbury target a stronger campaign and push towards the top end of the table.

Supporters could also get their first glimpse of the club's new arrivals. Summer signings Oran Jackson, Harrison Mole, Levi Steele and Joey Evans could be all in line to feature, with each expected to strengthen Langmead's squad ahead of the new season.

The Red and Greens

Coventry United, known as the Red and Greens, have called the Nick Newbold Stadium home since 2017. Formed in 2013, the club have enjoyed a remarkable rise through the non-league pyramid and are preparing for their first-ever campaign at Step 4.

Their promotion was secured with a 2-0 victory over Atherstone Town in the United Counties League Play-off Final at the end of last season, capping another successful year for the club.

Manager Terry Anderson and assistant Luke Morton have recently signed new two-year contracts, underlining the progress Coventry United have made under their leadership.

While Saturday marks Banbury's first outing of pre-season, it will be Coventry United's third. The hosts began their preparations with a 2-2 draw against Lutterworth AFC before claiming a 3-2 victory over local rivals Coventry Sphinx on Tuesday evening.
Saturday's fixture provides both sides with another valuable opportunity to build fitness, integrate new faces and continue preparations ahead of the 2026/27 season.
