First contested in 1995, when Banbury edged a thrilling 3-2 victory, the annual fixture has become a cherished part of the local football calendar. The match celebrates the strong relationship between the two clubs while honouring the memory of Ron Thomas, a devoted servant of Easington Sports who dedicated decades of service in a variety of roles.
The Puritans
Banbury head into Tuesday's clash on the back of an entertaining 3-2 victory away at Coventry United on Saturday. Levi Steele netted the winning goal to open his account for the club, while the Puritans produced an impressive first-half display to establish a 2-0 lead before the break.
Speaking to Puritans Radio after the game, manager Kelvin Langmead praised his side's first-half performance and was pleased with the foundations they are beginning to build as preparations for the new season continue. With pre-season gathering momentum, Tuesday's encounter provides another valuable opportunity to continue that progress.
The Clan
Andy Sharman's side arrive having already enjoyed a productive pre-season campaign. Most recently, Easington drew with Clanfield on Saturday, following convincing victories over Winslow United (3-1) and Malmesbury Victoria (5-0).
Those results will give the Sports plenty of confidence heading into Tuesday's derby, while a number of new signings have strengthened the squad. The Clan have also retained several key players, including last season's top scorer, Sam Lawrence, providing further optimism ahead of the new campaign.
