After taking the lead through Alex Worley, the visitors equalised 10 minutes into the second half. Shortly after, The Puritans were awarded a spot kick and Bishop’s Stortford were down to 10 men, however United failed to capitalise on that, having to settle for a point.
The result means Langmead’s side sit in eleventh place, eight points off of the play – off places but with games in hand over all but one team above them.
Following a nine game unbeaten run, the side’s momentum has been halted recently, with just one point coming from a possible nine. Yet with games in hand, alongside an encouraging boost with captain Yaw Ofosu back from injury, it is still all to play for in an exciting end to the season.
The last time Banbury were on the road, they fell to defeat at fellow play-off contenders Halesowen Town, they will be looking to turn their away form around tonight with Kettering also in the mix for a top five finish.
The Poppies -
Kettering Town sit four places and five points above United, in seventh.
Liam McDonald’s side come into the game in strong form. Three consecutive victories have propelled The Poppies firmly into the play-off picture, with momentum building. Prior to that, they had lost just one of their last seven games. Their most recent success came at home to fellow play – off contenders Quorn FC, where a Ben Isaacson brace helped them to a 3-1 win.
Edward Panter tops the scoring charts for the Northamptonshire outfit and heads into Tuesday night in fine form, having netted thirteen times so far this season.
Tonight will also see a return to familiar surroundings for Kelvin Langmead, who made 43 appearances for Kettering during the 2023/24 campaign. Josh Flanagan is another with Poppies connections, having previously enjoyed a loan spell at the club. Meanwhile, George Forsyth — who featured for United in the 2024/25 season — now wears the captain’s armband for the hosts.
Previous Meetings -
With the two sides having met back in October, the mood around this fixture feels completely different. Both teams were battling inconsistency and searching for rhythm on the pitch. The result saw The Poppies run out 2-0 winners.
The two sides have met 19 times in league games since 1966/67 season. Kettering winning eight and Banbury tasting success four times.
Latimer Park has not been the kindest of grounds for United, having not won on their last six visits.
