Kelvin Langmead's Puritans picked up a valuable point away at Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, drawing 1-1 against one of the division's leading sides, while Leighton suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Rushall Olympic.
Match Sponsor
We’re delighted to welcome Humphris Funerals, Banbury, as sponsors of tomorrow’s match.
A big thank you to them for their continued support. We’re grateful for their sponsorship and look forward to an exciting game!
The Puritans
Kelvin Langmead's side will be encouraged by their performance at Bromsgrove, where they earned a draw against a team challenging near the top of the table. That result followed a difficult run that included a 4-2 defeat away at Peterborough Sports and a 3-2 home victory over Stamford.
The Puritans have shown they can find the net, scoring twice against Peterborough Sports and three times against Stamford, but consistency remains the key issue. With 10 points from their opening 12 league matches, Banbury sit 18th and will recognise the importance of making home advantage count against a side below them.
Alex Prosser scored twice in the 3-2 victory over Stamford. His contribution in that game demonstrated his ability to make a difference in the final third, while Levi Steele has also provided an attacking threat, scoring in the defeat at Peterborough Sports. Banbury will need their forward players to be clinical against a Leighton side that has conceded regularly in recent weeks.
The Reds
Leighton Town arrive in Oxfordshire under the leadership of Andy Leese and Jon Meakes, who were appointed as the club's new management team earlier this month following Paul Reed's departure. The experienced pair have worked across the non-league pyramid, with previous spells at clubs including Chesham United, Enfield Town, Hayes & Yeading United and Walthamstow. They have been tasked with improving results and bringing greater consistency to the side.
The Reds' latest results underline the scale of the challenge facing their new management team. They lost 3-0 at home to Rushall Olympic on Saturday, having previously suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Stourbridge and a 4-2 home loss to Peterborough Sports. Their only league victory so far came against Stamford, leaving them 21st in the table with five points from 11 matches.
Kobe Chong recently signed for the Bedfordshire outfit and will be looking to help improve their results. However, their defensive record — 25 goals conceded in 11 league games — will be a major concern for Leese and Meakes as they look to steady the ship.
Previous Meetings
There is limited recent competitive history between the sides, making Tuesday's fixture a relatively unfamiliar contest.
One recorded meeting came in the FA Trophy in October 2011, when Banbury United travelled to Leighton Town and secured a 1-0 victory
