Banbury United return to Southern League Premier Central action on Saturday afternoon when Leiston visit the TUGO Community Stadium, with Kelvin Langmead’s side looking to put the disappointment of their FA Cup exit behind them.

The Puritans were beaten 2-1 by Exmouth Town in Wednesday night’s replay, ending their involvement in this season’s competition after the original tie finished goalless at Banbury.

Banbury United

The Puritans currently sit 18th in the Premier Central table, with five points from their opening six matches.

Banbury began the campaign with a goalless draw away at Bishop’s Stortford before beating Racing Club Warwick 2-1 at home. Since then, however, Langmead’s side have suffered defeats against Real Bedford and Rushall Olympic, before drawing 1-1 with Stourbridge and losing 3-0 away to Anstey Nomads.

The recent run has left United with one win, two draws and three defeats from their opening six league fixtures, with six goals scored and 11 conceded.

Their most recent league outing saw them beaten 3-0 by Anstey Nomads on Bank Holiday Monday, before the two FA Cup meetings with Exmouth Town.

Saturday therefore represents a chance for Banbury to return to winning ways in front of their home supporters and begin climbing the early-season table.

Leiston

Leiston arrive in Banbury sitting 8th in the Premier Central table, with seven points from their opening six matches.

The Blues have recorded two victories, one draw and three defeats so far, with their most recent league outing ending in a 4-3 defeat away to Bury Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Before that result, Leiston had enjoyed back-to-back league victories, beating Redditch United 3-1 at home before recording a 2-1 away victory against Needham Market.

They have also already shown their ability to score goals, finding the net 12 times in their opening six league matches.

Leiston will also head to Banbury with confidence from their midweek cup result, having beaten Grays Athletic 5-0 on Tuesday night following a goalless draw in the original tie.

Previous Meetings

There has been little to separate the sides in their recent encounters, although both teams have enjoyed notable victories.

The most recent meeting came in March, when Leiston claimed a 1-0 victory at Victory Road, with Adam Mills scoring the only goal of the game in the 11th minute.

Earlier in the 2025/26 campaign, the sides drew 1-1 at Banbury, with Rangel giving Leiston the lead before Styche levelled for the Puritans.

Banbury also have a memorable victory over the Blues from last season, beating Leiston 3-0 away from home in the FA Cup third qualifying round in September 2025
