United Begin Home Campaign with Local Derby

Banbury United welcome Racing Club Warwick to the Spencer Stadium on Tuesday night as the Puritans play their first home league fixture of the 2026/27 Pitching In Southern League Premier Central season.
After opening their campaign with a goalless draw away at Bishop's Stortford on Saturday, Kelvin Langmead's side will be hoping to go one better on home soil and claim their first three points of the new campaign.

The Puritans

United began the season with a 0-0 stalemate at Bishop's Stortford, but there were plenty of positives for Langmead to take from the performance.

The Puritans looked organised and competitive throughout against a side they know well, with the clean sheet providing a strong foundation to build from. Despite being unable to find the breakthrough, United will be encouraged by their opening-day display as they prepare to welcome Racing Club Warwick to the Spencer Stadium.

One of the biggest positives from Saturday was the strength in depth available to Langmead. The Banbury boss was able to turn to a strong bench throughout the afternoon, with the quality of the options available underlining the work done in recruitment over the summer.

The Racers

Racing Club Warwick arrive in Banbury as one of the division's newly promoted sides after a historic campaign last season.

Known as The Racers, the Warwickshire club secured promotion to Step 3 following a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division play-off final.

Joint managers Jack Edwards and Chris Knott have overseen the club's rise and will now lead Racing Club Warwick into their first ever season at Step 3 level.
The Racers also began their league campaign with a draw on Saturday, playing out a 1-1 stalemate at home to Peterborough Sports. Kieran Cooney was on target for the hosts as they secured a point on their Step 3 debut.

Racing Club Warwick have strengthened their squad over the summer as they prepare for the challenge ahead, with former Puritan Alex Worley among those to join The Racers.

The visitors will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to life at Step 3 and provide another stern test for Langmead's side on Tuesday night.
Banbury boss Kelvin Langmead briefly appeared for Racing Club Warwick in June 2024 before calling time on his playing career.

Previous Meetings

Banbury United and Racing Club Warwick have met just once in league competition, during the 1989/90 season — the campaign in which Banbury were relegated from the Southern League. United lost both league meetings that season.

The two sides have also faced each other in the FA Cup, Birmingham Senior Cup and Daventry Charity Cup.
