Match Preview - Spalding United

. Banbury United20 Jan - 19:42

A trip to the league leaders awaits Langmead’s men this weekend.

Despite another frustrating postponement at the Spencer Stadium, powered by egg, Banbury United head to Lincolnshire looking to build momentum on their last away victory at Worcester City.

Saturday’s scheduled home fixture against St Ives Town fell victim to flooding following a sharp rise in the nearby river, marking United’s third consecutive home postponement. The match has now been rearranged for Tuesday 27th January , with a 7:45pm kick-off. With fixtures beginning to stack up, United will be keen to manage the squad carefully ahead of a demanding run.

Saturday’s away test will be one of the toughest of the campaign so far. The hosts have lost just once at home all season and boast the league’s most potent attack by a considerable margin. However, confidence will be high after United’s last away result, as we look to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

The Tulips -

Jimmy Dean’s side come into the game off the back of a dramatic comeback away at Quorn on Saturday. A brace from Maniche Sani in the 86th and 95th minute made it 3-3, before the league’s top scorer Jack Roberts thumped home the winner two minutes later to complete the comeback.

Spalding are unbeaten in their last twelve league games, winning nine of those.

Alongside Roberts, Bart Cybulski has 17 goals to his name highlighting a lethal duo which will test The Puritan’s goal. Having scored 74 goals already this season, United will have to be at their best to get the result they want this weekend.

Previous meetings -

The sides met last season for the first time since 2002/03, Banbury losing 2-0 in the away fixture, before a 76th minute strike from Alex Prosser saw Banbury win 2-1 in the reverse game.

Earlier this season, The Puritans inflicted one of Spalding’s three defeats all season. A convincing 4-1 victory at The Spencer Stadium, powered by egg in September saw Jonathan Lawson, James Alabi, Joshua Flanagan and Reece Styche all get on the scoresheet in a superb showing.
