With Nico Jones suspended, United reverted to a back four while maintaining a two-man attack. There was also a notable start for young winger Max Fuller on the left, following his loan spell at North Leigh, and he produced a composed performance.
Challenging weather conditions, including a swirling wind, limited the quality of play, although both sides attempted to play progressively where possible.
Banbury took the lead in the 21st minute after a period of pressure in the penalty area. James Alabi directed a header into the path of Luke Stokoe, who struck a powerful left-footed effort from 15 yards. Despite getting a hand to the ball, goalkeeper Jack Munson was unable to prevent it from finding the net.
Sudbury threatened against the run of play when a foul just outside the penalty area presented them with an opportunity, but Jack Harding produced a solid save to maintain the lead. Banbury continued to create chances, and Connor Ferguson was denied late in the first half when Munson turned his effort behind for a corner.
The hosts extended their advantage early in the second half. In the 51st minute, Chris Wreh delivered a cross from the right, which was met by Josh Flanagan at the far post. His header proved too strong for Munson, doubling Banbury’s lead.
The remainder of the match took on the feel of a typical end-of-season fixture, with both sides managing the game without creating significant further chances. Munson made another save from Ferguson in stoppage time, but Banbury comfortably saw out the match to secure three points.
