Match Report - Harborough Town

Match Report - Harborough Town

. Banbury United8 Apr - 12:01

The Puritans suffered a heavy defeat away to league leaders, despite a strong opening performance that saw them take early control of the match.

United began on the front foot, deploying a back four with two forwards, and created a series of early chances that put the hosts under pressure. In the 10th minute, Connor Ferguson forced a save from Elliott Taylor after breaking through the defence. Five minutes later, Taylor was called into action again, first denying Keegan Bloom from close range and then turning a powerful effort from Luke Stokoe around the post.

Banbury continued to press, with Aaron McCreadie also seeing an 18-yard effort saved, but their persistence paid off in the 25th minute. Stokoe found space from distance and struck a powerful shot into the net to give the visitors a deserved lead.

However, Harborough responded quickly and equalised just four minutes later with their first significant attack, as Alex Morris headed home from close range. The goal shifted momentum, and the hosts began to assert themselves.

Harborough took the lead in the 41st minute in similar fashion, with Rory McAuley heading in from another delivery into the box.

The home side extended their advantage on the hour mark, capitalising on a long throw-in as Terrell Pennant finished from close range. From that point, Harborough controlled the game and added further goals late on, with substitutes Ben Stephens and Danny Newton scoring in the 85th and 89th minutes respectively.

While the final scoreline suggests a one-sided contest, Banbury’s early dominance and attacking play ensured the match remained competitive for long periods.
