Banbury United signed off their home campaign with a goalless draw against play-off chasing Redditch United, producing an improved and disciplined performance.
The early stages were evenly contested, with both sides showing each other plenty of respect and limiting clear-cut opportunities. The first real chance came in the 25th minute when Luke Stokoe’s forward pass found Connor Ferguson, but the striker lifted his effort over the advancing goalkeeper and wide of the target.
Redditch carried a threat going forward, but Banbury remained organised defensively. The hosts created another opportunity in the 37th minute, as Yaw Ofosu met a corner at the far post, although his header drifted over. Shortly before half-time, James Alabi came closest to breaking the deadlock, forcing a strong save from Tyrese Warmington from a tight angle.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams struggling to find a decisive breakthrough. Banbury came agonisingly close in the 76th minute when Josh Flanagan struck from distance, his effort crashing against the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten.
The closing stages brought late pressure from Redditch, who pushed forward in search of a winner. However, determined defending from Banbury, including crucial goal-line interventions, ensured the hosts held firm to secure a point. Even with the Redditch goalkeeper joining the attack late on, the deadlock remained unbroken.
A solid defensive display and improved overall performance saw Banbury end their home season with a hard-earned clean sheet.
