Banbury United delivered a dominant performance in a 10-0 win over Chadlington FC in a special memorial match held in memory of the late Paul Duester. The fixture was played in front of a respectful crowd, with all proceeds going to support the Lawrence Home Nursing Team.
A Banbury side made up of first-team players, young prospects and trialists produced a strong, attacking display fitting of the occasion.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Kaydon Gardiner-Solomon weaved through the Chadlington defence and finished superbly into the top left corner to give the Puritans a 1-0 lead at the break.
After the interval, Banbury flew out of the blocks. In the 48th minute, Tommy Cartwright provided the assist for Trialist C to slot home the second. Just a minute later, Trialist D tried his luck from distance and found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Banbury continued to dominate, and in the 56th minute, Trialist C fired in his second of the night with a fine strike from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Despite several impressive saves from Chadlington’s substitute goalkeeper, the goals kept coming. Connor Ferguson added Banbury’s fifth in the 69th minute with a fierce drive into the roof of the net.
Trialist C then completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute, reacting quickest after a pair of saves from the visiting keeper.
Ferguson made it 7-0 from the penalty spot just two minutes later before completing his hat-trick in the 81st minute with another powerful finish. He wasn’t done there - a stunning scissor kick into the bottom corner in the 85th minute brought up his fourth, and a minute later, he tapped in his fifth after a well-worked move from Trialist E to round off the scoring at 10-0.
A night of football, remembrance and community spirit.
Banbury United would like to thank Chadlington FC for taking part in the fixture and wish them all the best for their upcoming season.
