Josh Flanagan is proudly sponsored by “The Barson Boys”. But who are they?
Nigel Barson is a member of the Club who came forward to sponsor a player early in pre-season. His sponsorship, under “The Barson Boys,” is in memory of his father and three brothers, who are no longer with us. “I’m the last man standing,” says Nigel. Actually, he’s not – uncle, Doug Barson, who used to play football for Bicester, is promising a visit to The Spencer Stadium, powered by egg.com, later this season! And there’s son, Jamie, who has recently graduated from Nottingham University.
While Nigel no longer lives in Banbury, the Barsons have strong local connections, having lived on Western Crescent for many years. Nigel and brothers, as well as Jamie, were all born at the Horton General.
If the name Barson rings a bell, it could be because of Nigel’s distant relative, Frank Barson, of Aston Villa, Manchester United and England fame. According to The Guardian, he was “famous for brilliant defending, unrivalled heading – and on-field violence.” So not much to live up to, Josh!
Thank you, Nigel, for supplementing your membership and match ticket purchases with a player sponsorship.
