Banbury United and Puritans Radio are jointly announcing that they will pursue separate paths as media organisations, while celebrating 11 years of successful partnership at The Spencer Stadium in Banbury and indeed around the world via the airwaves.
The last Banbury United live football match to be covered by Puritans Radio will be the 2025/26 season finale at Needham Market on April 25th.
For pre-season 2026/27, Banbury United will launch its own digital service whereby fans can listen to live match commentary via the internet. Indeed, much will stay the same with Dave England planning to continue to supply commentary services to Banbury United for as many matches as possible on a voluntary basis.
Puritans Radio will shortly be rebranding with a completely new name and logo. The radio station will, in due course, depart the cabin at Banbury United’s stadium.
Wayne Farrell, Chairman of Banbury United Football Club, said, “Over the past decade and more, Puritans Radio has been a fantastic asset to Banbury United, with their match coverage relied upon by our fans far and wide. Back in 2015, a new community radio station hosted at the local community football club made a lot of sense. In the more regulated business environment of 2026, however, Banbury United simply has to have ownership of and accountability for all activities conducted in its name. Both organisations reached the conclusion that a new model for independent operation was needed. We are very grateful to Stewart Green and Ian Fleming from Puritans Radio for their co-operation.
“As for the future, I should start by saying we are delighted that Dave England will remain as our core commentator, attending home and away fixtures, as he is able to do so. We are motivated to explore and develop new audio content ideas, both recorded and live, and realise new commercial opportunities. We look forward to launching our new platform over the coming months. If there is anyone out there who would like to come and help, with sponsoring, presenting, content creation or technical support, please do get in touch. This Club is still driven by its members and supporters. Let’s make this an exciting new venture we can all enjoy and benefit from.”
Ian Fleming of Puritans Radio said, “It has been a great pleasure to work alongside BUFC over almost 11 years, providing media support for the true supporters in the local community. We are equally pleased to hand this over into the capable hands of BUFC to continue providing this valuable service. I believe this change of responsibility will strengthen both organisations.
I hope those who volunteer for both organisations will continue to do what they do for the Club and also for the community via our rebranded station. Media within non-league clubs is growing and I believe now is the right time for BUFC to take this under its own wing.
I want to thank the club for the journey we've enjoyed together over nearly 11 years and wish them every success in the future".
Look out for further news from Banbury United and the new Puritans Radio over the coming weeks and months.
