Jak Hickman signs for the Puritans for the 2022/23 season.

The club are delighted to announce we have signed Jak Hickman, a former Coventry City scholar who most recently played for Kings Lynn Town.

The 23-year-old right sided full back/wing back who spent eight years with the West Bromwich Albion academy before joining Coventry City on a scholarship at the age of 16, progressing to sign his first professional contract with City at the end of season 2016/17.

He made his senior debut for the Sky Blues in an EFL Trophy game against Forest Green Rovers in October 2018 and followed that up with another appearance in that competition against Cheltenham Town the following month. Though not making a Football League appearance whilst at Coventry, Jak gained experience of first team football with loan spells at Mickleover Sports, Ashton United, Hereford, Redditch United and Bromsgrove Sporting.

In August 2020 Jak moved to Bolton Wanderers, making his Football League debut on Saturday 19th September 2020 in an away game at Colchester United and would go on to make a final three League appearances for the Trotters over the next month. He also made three senior appearances for them in the EFL Trophy that season, scoring against Newcastle United U21s in a 3-2 win. After a short loan spell with Kings Lynn Town, he was released by Bolton at the end of the season.

Jak joined League of Ireland Premier Division side St Patricks Athletic in August 2021, playing for them through to the end of their season in November, making a notable appearance for them in the final of the Football Association of Ireland Cup against Bohemians in front of a crowd of 37,126 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Upon returning to the UK when the Irish season had ended, Jak had a brief spell with Stourbridge before joining Kings Lynn Town in February 2022, making ten appearances for the National League side through to the end of last season.

Jak had this to say upon signing “Really excited to get going and to be a part of this football club, it’s a club on the up and something I wanted to be involved in. Looking forward to adding to what is already an exciting team and creating memories with you all”

Manager Andy Whing was naturally pleased to have signed Jak “I’m very pleased to have got Jak to come to us for the new season. He’s got plenty of experience at a higher level and can play in a number of positions. I’ve known Jak for a long time and believe that we’ve got a very good player on our hands”

We are sure the whole fan base is delighted with our first new signing and looking forward to seeing him in action!
