Duo join on loan from Stockport

Manager Andy Whing has strengthened his squad with two loanees from Stockport County. The players will be in the squad for tomorrow's game at Hereford.

Cody Johnson

Midfielder Cody Johnson enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season in 2021/22, rising through the Academy ranks at the Club to become a member of Dave Challinor’s first-team squad.

The 17-year-old had a successful spell on loan at Stockport Town in the first half of the season, before making his first-team debut for County in our Buildbase FA Trophy win against Cheshunt in February 2022 – playing the full 90 minutes at the base of midfield and being named Man of the Match.

He went on to make a further starts in the FA Trophy and Cheshire Senior Cup that season, starting in the semi-final and final of the latter as we won the competition for the first time since 2016.

In April 2022, Cody signed his first pro-contract with the Club, becoming a permanent member of the first-team squad and keeping him at Edgeley Park until 2024.

Cody is a Youth Loan

Keane Barugh

Exciting winger Keane has been with County since the age of 16, impressing during his time in the Academy during the 2021/22 season and representing the first-team during their successful Cheshire Senior Cup campaign.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for the Club as a substitute last season, coming off the bench in County’s 3-0 win away at Needham Market in the Buildbase FA Trophy Quarter-Final.

He has become a key part of the senior academy side so far this season, regularly involved in first-team training at Carrington and has made the substitute bench on numerous occasions in League Two and the Emirates FA Cup.

Keane is a Work Experience loan.

Commenting on the signings Andy said

"We’re absolutely delighted that Stockport have loaned us two very exciting young lads who are willing to learn and improve. They’ll freshen the squad up and will be valuable for us in the coming weeks. Stockport have been great which we're very appreciative of and the way we play and the environment we’ve got have played a part in getting Cody and Keane here."

We are sure fans will welcome the pair at Edgar Street tomorrow.
