There will be an opportunity to have a photo taken with the huge shield at Saturday’s home game against North Leigh!
Chairman Ronnie Johnson had this to say: “It’s coming home — the fantastic and somewhat large Championship winners’ shield will be on display at Saturday’s last home pre-season game versus our neighbours North Leigh FC: this is your chance to have a photo and retain a memory from last season’s momentous achievement! An opportunity not to be missed!”
We were awarded the Southern League Championship shield after Premier South winners Taunton Town declined to travel to Banbury for the playoff game, and we had a better record than them.
It’s an enormous and heavy trophy which dates back to the first season of the Southern League in 1894-95. A number of now Premier Division and EFL clubs were winners in the early days including Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. Banbury United join all the previous winners commemorated with a silver shield added to the trophy.
We are very grateful to Morgan Transport for their assistance in getting the trophy delivered from the Southern League office in Gloucester to the ground.
Club photographer Julie Hawkins can take your photo with the Trophy and we are asking for a donation to Katherine House Hospice if you would like Julie to do this.
