The first half saw Swindon Supermarine have much the better of the game in terms of possession. Though they had the ball in the net after 10 minutes it was disallowed for a marginal off side decision. Other than this though, Swindon themselves struggled to create clear cut chances despite looking the much more likely of the two sides to score. However, just when it looked like the game would be goalless at half time, two minutes before the break, a shot from Jamie Gosling was saved by Joe Murrell, only for the rebound to fall nicely to Steve Cook who put Marine in front.
Swindon came out for the start of the second half in much more positive mood and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead on 50 minutes when Gary Horgan was given plenty of time to set his shot up from the edge of the penalty area and it duly flew into the top right hand corner of the net.
Most disappointingly Banbury failed to respond to this set-back and Swindon continued to dominate and were unlucky not to go further ahead when they hit the bar in the 68th minute, the ball coming down on to the goal line before being hacked clear, and then in the 73rd minute when they hit the post.
However they duly got their third goal in the 75th minute through Ben Wells.
Finally in the 5th minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half, Banbury created their only clear cut chance of the game when David Stone was put through but with just Will Puddy to beat the shot was screwed wide of the goal.
