Former Sunderland Under-21 midfielder Tom Scott has joined Banbury United.

Tom Scott, 20, arrived on Wearside from Northampton Town in July 2021 as he impressed on a trial period. Once signed for the Black Cats, Tom went onto impress in the Premier League 2 being a box-to-box midfielder which fast-tracked him to make his debut in the Papa John’s trophy where he featured against Manchester United U21s. Playing the full 90 minutes and battling against current Eredivisie star and Iraq international Zidane Iqbal, Tom’s Sunderland came on top with a 2-1 victory helping them get out of the group stage.

The subsequent season saw Scott amass a total of 24 appearances for the Black Cats in the Premier League 2. Showing his adaptability by playing anywhere in midfield, Kettering Town swooped in on deadline day in March 2023 to sign Tom Scott for the remaining eight games of the season. He went on to feature four times for Lee Glover’s side in the National league North prior to his release from Sunderland in June 2023.

Tom featured in the pre-season game for the Puritans on Friday evening versus Oxford City showcasing his ability through an industrious performance. A notable highlight for the Banbury Number 7 on the night was opening the scoring with a fine solo goal, taking the ball past three defenders before slotting home calmly.
