It was a competitive opening to the game but there were no decent efforts on goal in the first 15 minutes. At that point Leam Howards turned sharply on the edge of the penalty and unleashed s fierce shot over the bar.
But as the half developed Weymouth looked the more likely to break the deadlock and this they would do in the 24th minute when a Callum Buckley cross in from the left saw Ben Thomson's initial shot blocked but Brandon Goodship was on hand to strike the rebound home from 6 yards.
Banbury responded well to going behind and on the 37th minute a Johnson shot was blocked with the ball coming back to Jack Self who shot wide from the edge of the penalty area. Just two minutes later a free kick from the left by Jordy Ngathe was put into the area, the ball falling on the edge to Jack Finch who screwed his shot wide.
But this good spell that Banbury were having got its reward in the 42nd minute when a cross in from the left saw Johnson strike the ball across the home custodian into the bottom far corner of the net for the equaliser.
The second half saw Weymouth have much the better of the opening twenty minutes but Banbury defended well and with commitmemt. Abdulai Baggie twice shot wide as did Charlie Davis on one occssion when they ought to have at least hit the target.
Banbury always showed promise on the break and in the 77th minute might have snatched an unlikely winner when a shot from Tom Winters coming in from the left was pushed out by Will Dennis into the path of Jack Self whose shot from eight yards was then well saved by the custodian.
Banbury defended well in the final ten minutes to hold out for the point that their battling performance deserved in what was an entertaining game.
In what was United's fourth game in eight days it was an excellent battling performance to keep their undefeated league run going which now stands at 11 games.
