Remarkably given the final scoreline, it was Wolverton who took an early lead when in the fifth minute Callum White’s clearance from the edge of the Banbury penalty area hit fellow United player Declan Hartigan with the ball bouncing back towards goal into the path of Ben Baines who slotted the ball post Leigh Bedwell from 12 yards.
United were level just two minutes later though when Jacob Walcott crossed from the right bye-line with Wolverton’s Tony Draper, under pressure from Leam Howards, turning the ball into his own net.

United would now start to dominate the game though it took until the 30th for them to go in front when Jordan Green shot from the edge of the penalty area past visiting goalkeeper Joshua Shinns into the far corner of the net.

Four minutes later Carl Tappin nicked the ball off defender Ben Munro just outside the Wolverton penalty area before taking it forward and firing it past Shinns from 8 yards.

Five minutes before half time it was 4-1 after Adeyinka Talabi had been brought down inside the penalty area with Jacob Walcott converting his fifth penalty kick of the season.

The second half saw Banbury totally dominant and add seven further goals. Ben Whitehead who came on as a substitute eleven minutes into the half grabbed himself a hat-trick (66, 72 and 87 mins), Leam Howards notched two (58 and 76 mins) and there were also goals for Tom Ryan (62 mins) and Declan Hartigan (77 mins).

The last time Banbury scored 11 in a game was back in season 1945/46 when they beat Royal Naval Air Station Culham 12-0 in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.
