The first half hour of the game saw Hungerford having much the better of proceedings and putting a lot of pressure on the United defence and it only looked a matter of time before they would make the breakthrough. There were just a couple of moves of note for Banbury. Firstly on 11 minutes Duran Martin put Nicholas Kalakoutis through down the right but when he got to the edge of the penalty area he got his shot all wrong and it went well wide. Then in the 28th minute some typical Spanish trickery from Daniel Garceran Moreno saw him work his way inside the Hungerford penalty area where he went down though the referee was unimpressed with his penalty appeal and waved play on.
The goal that Hungerford had been threatening throughout the half would arrive in the 36th minute when Matt Day's shot from 20 yards flew into the top corner of the net giving Jack Harding in the Banbury goal no chance.
Four minutes later it was 2-0 when a low cross from the right went through to Mark Draycott at the far post who clinically struck the ball low back across Harding into the far corner of the net from ten yards.
United showed some promise early in the second half. Three minutes into this period Darius Browne cut in from the right before unleashing a left foot shot which forced Hungerford goalkeeper Paul Strudley to save low down at the near post. Four minutes later a low cross from the right by Jacob Blackstock looked dangerous but Leam Howards coming on the edge of the six yard box under sever pressure from a defender was unable to direct the ball into the net and the ball went wide.
After this though it became comfortable for Hungerford. They would show their quality by passing the ball around and keeping possession for lengthy periods.
Hungerford would add a third goal a minute from time when after good work by Draycott, the ball ran loose inside the penalty area to Mike Jones who stroked the ball past Harding from 12 yards.
