This was an even game in the opening fifteen minutes until at this point Weymouth began to have the better of the game. In the 17th minute an Adam Kelly shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area was well held by Leigh Bedwell in the Banbury goal. Just seconds later a Chris Shephard shot from just inside the penalty area smashed against the crossbar with Bedwell beaten.

The pressure continued but Banbury always looked promising going forward and against the run of play they took the lead in the 28th minute when Marvin Martin breaking forward down the left wing did very well to beat a defender with some good footwork before putting in a low cross which Ben Whitehead bundled home from close range in the centre.

After the goal Banbury continued to have to do a lot of defending. Weymouth looked dangerous in their build up but were wasteful when shooting and crosses in were poor. This coupled with some decent defending looked like Banbury were going to get to half time in front but two minutes before the interval a mistake at the back presented a chance for Adam Kelly, in plenty of space, and he duly took advantage by slotting the ball home past Bedwell from the edge of the penalty area.

Weymouth dominated the opening stages to the second half but were unable to find their way through. Banbury looked just to be getting more into the game when in the 67th minute a cross from the right by Kelly saw Jake Wannell's header from just five yards out well saved by Bedwell as he tipped it up onto the bar but the ball came down and it was an easy header into the net by substitute George Rigg who had only been on the pitch for less than 30 seconds.

Banbury though responded positively to going behind and following a good spell they equalised in the 76th minute when substitute Leam Howards did well deep inside the Weymouth penalty area to wriggle free and laid it back for the incoming Carl Tappin who struck the ball home into the top corner of the net from 12 yards.

Two minutes later Howards was through on goal with just the home custodian to beat but the good chance was not taken.

Having been pegged back Weymouth pushed forward in search of a winner and it would come just three minutes from time when a shortish corner from the right caught Banbury out with the ball being played to the edge of the penalty area to Kelly before being crossed into the centre where Stewart Yetton struck the ball home.

Banbury had run the league high-flyers close but frustratingly there are no points to show for that.
