United would get off to the best of starts, going ahead as early as the fifth minute. Jordan Green created the goal with a jinky run inside the Dorchester penalty area and though his shot was saved by Shane Murphy, Leam Howards was on hand to knock the loose ball home.
It could have been 2-0 just three minutes later but Howard's shot from inside the area was saved by the custodian.
United's chances would though receive a huge set-back in the 17th minute when Joel Meade brought down Ben Watson, when he was through on goal, just outside the Banbury penalty area. Meade was duly shown the red card.
The equaliser would come in the 23rd minute when a low cross from the right by Watson was slotted home at the far post by Dan Smith.
A minute later and Leigh Bedwell trying to get to a Banbury defender's header back to him brought down Watson inside the penalty area. The referee did not see fit to issue a red card, only a yellow but Watson picked himself up to convert the spot-kick with ease to put Dorchester ahead.
Two minutes before the interval Sam Lanahan hit the bar but just two minutes later he had made it 3-1 when heading home a left wing corner taken by Smith.
Banbury, despite the man disadvantage, competed well early in the second half. In the 58th minute a mis-kick from Murphy allowed Tom Ryan, now pushed up front, to set-up Howards but the excellent chance was not taken as the ball was put well over the bar.
Then in the 62nd minute Banbury had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Murphy appeared to push over Howards. Despite the assistant referee signalling for the penalty, the referee was having none of it and waved play on.
Dorchester though finished the game well on top with Bedwell making good saves from Jack Odam and Dan Smith.
