Second in the table Corby Town earned all three points against relegation threatened Banbury United at Steel Park. And it was a more comfortable victory for the home side than the score-line might suggest with United's goal coming from the penalty spot with virtually the last kick of the game in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.

This was a game that began very quietly with little to note in the early stages. Whilst Corby had the better of the opening twenty minutes at least United looked lively up front without creating any clear opportunities.

Banbury's most promising move of the half probably came in the 25th minute when Nathaniel Lewars went on a surging run from just inside the Corby half to the edge of their penalty area before shooting over the bar.

Corby always looked to have the edge though and the more likely to score. In the 38th minute a quick turn and snap-shot from Elliott Chamberlain brought out a good save from Leigh Bedwell in the Banbury goal as he parried the goal-bound effort away. Leigh's save would though prove to be in vain as from the right hand side resultant corner, taken by former Puritan Stephan Morley, United 's recent defensive frailties were again shown to the fore with Jamie Anton heading home from six yards.

Five minutes into the second half and United gifted Corby a second goal when a poor back-pass put Bedwell into trouble and unable to clear it properly the ball then ended up with Cleveland Taylor on the edge of the penalty area who had the time to pick his spot and strike the ball home past a stranded custodian.

Having now gone 2-0 up it was now very comfortable for Corby and from this point United never really looked like getting anything from the game. To their credit though, United had a much better spell in the last ten minutes of the game. In the 84th minute Paul Walker in the Corby goal did well to tip a Hicham Abdellah shot from 12 yards over the bar for a corner. And then in the fifth minute of injury time Leam Howards was brought down inside the penalty area with Jacob Walcott converting the spot-kick. It was though by then too late to make any difference with the referee almost immediately blowing for full time.
