United's ten game unbeaten league run comes to an end as league leaders Cinderford leave with the three points in a game with few chances

It was an equal though uneventful first 20 minutes with neither side creating any clear chances.

Midway through the half, Cinderford began to have the better of the game. On 23 minutes a free kick 25 yards out saw a shot from Lee Smith which had Jack Harding scrambling low down to his left hand post but the effort went just wide. Three minutes later Smith was involved again when his corner from the right saw Josh Nelmes get his head to the ball 10 yards out but the effort was straight at Harding.

The remainder of the first half developed into an even affair but there were no further chances of any note and so it was goalless at the break.

United did not begin the second half well and with Cinderford on top it was no surprise when they went in front in the 51st minute. A deep cross from the right touch line by Kieran Thomas saw Lee Smith in space at the far edge of the six yard box and he headed the ball back across Harding into the far corner of the net.

United did create a good chance on the hour mark when substitute Miles Welch-Hayes played a neat one-two with Mark Bell down the left which took him inside the Cinderford penalty area and he did well to make room for a shot but it went well over the bar when he should really have made Alex Harris in the visiting goal at least make a save.

The 72nd minute saw a decent 30 yard shot from Banbury's Darius Browne which had Harris stretching but it was too near the custodian to cause undue concern.

The final minute of the game saw a long kick down the field from Harding which caused some problems with Zac McEachran bursting into the Cinderford penalty area but just when he looked like he was about to let fly, he turned out and passed the ball across and when the ball came back to him and he eventually got a cross in the ball fell to Ricky Johnson but under pressure he blasted it well over the bar from 15 yards.

This game was anything but a classic with United failing to force the visiting custodian to make any saves of any note, the only couple of chances created by them failing to be on target. To be fair Jack Harding in the Banbury goal, though the busier of the two keepers, was not exactly over-worked either but over the 90 minutes it is difficult to argue that Cinderford were not worthy winners.

Banbury United: Jack Harding, Callum White, Jon Steedman (Miles Welch-Hayes 58), Duran Martin, Charlie Wise, Andy Gunn, Zac McEachran, George Nash, Ricky Johnson, Louis Joyce (Jack Westbrook 82), Mark Bell (Darius Browne 68). Subs (not used): Nicholas Kalakoutis, Ollie Stanbridge.
