United hit five and move up to fourth in the table

United got off to a good start thanks to an eighth minute penalty converted by Ricky Johnson after he himself had been brought down by goalkeeper Kieran Greene down the right hand side of the penalty area.

The early goal did not though see the home side, pointless all season, capitulate at all as they competed well and though Banbury were having the better of the game there was little between the sides

Felipe Barcelos, making his first start for the club, fired the ball just over the bar in the 20th minute and Banbury should certainly have doubled their advantage just after the half hour mark when Barcelos was bundled over by Aaron Dunne inside the penalty area down the left but this time Johnson’s spot-kick was saved by Greene low down to his left. With Dunne being sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity United now though had a man advantage for the rest of the game.

Three minutes before half time and United scored a second when Callum White crossed from the right with the incoming George Nash striking the ball home from 12 yards.

In the 48th minute a cross from the left by Darius Browne went to Mark Bell on the edge of the Bashley penalty area but his curling shot went just wide of the far post. Five minutes later Johnson was put through on goal down the left but United’s leading goalscorer hit the outside of the stanchion from 15 yards.

Banbury would finally get a third goal in the 68th minute and remarkably it would come from United’s third penalty of the game. Callum White was fouled down the right hand side of the Bashley penalty area with Mark Bell competently converting the spot-kick to the custodian’s right.

Five minutes later it was 4-0 when a cross from the right by Bell was headed on by Barcelos in the centre to Browne who though not connecting with the ball properly got enough on it to beat Greene from ten yards.

Three minutes later and United completed the scoring for the afternoon when Leam Howards in a one-on-one with the Bashley goalkeeper competently slotted the ball past Greene from 12 yards.

Whilst this was far from United’s most convincing performance of the season it is another three points which moves them up to fourth place in the table.
