United were without the ill Felipe Barcelos and it was Leam Howards partnered Ricky Johnson up front. Manager Mike Ford opted to bring Andy Gunn back into the centre of defence after his four match suspension leaving Charlie Wise to start on the bench.
It was a rather uneventful opening twenty minutes with little between the sides before United went close in the 23rd minute when a cross from the left by Leam Howards saw Ricky Johnson’s header from six yards out very well saved by Ben Reed in the Yate goal.
Banbury would have the better of the half from this point with Yate defending well but offering little going forward. Banbury would though get a crucial goal four minutes before the interval. A free-kick on the left pumped into the penalty area saw the ball fall to Ollie Stanbridge inside the right hand side of the penalty area down by the bye-line whose superb lifted cross was headed home by Andy Gunn in the centre from close range much to the delight of the large traveling contingent from North Oxfordshire.
Five minutes into the second half and good play down the right involving Howards and Johnson saw the latter put the ball into the back of the net from a narrow angle but the Assistant Referee’s flag went up for off-side. And then four minutes later Johnson had the ball in the back of the Yate net once again when getting his head on to the end of a corner from the left by Mark Bell but this time it was the referee who disallowed the goal for a foul.
United continued to have much the better of the game and the all-important second goal would arrive in the 61st minute when George Nash fed the ball through to Zac McEachran who smashed the ball home from a central position twelve yards out, the ball hitting the underside of the bar before coming down behind the line.
Ten minutes from time and it was 3-0 when good work from Michael Hopkins down the left saw him set-up Bell who struck the ball powerfully home from eight yards. Three minutes from time and United completed the scoring when a free-kick from the left was headed home by Charlie Wise at the far post.
