United secured second place and with it are guaranteed a home play-off final if they beat Winchester City in play-off semi-final on Tuesday

Banbury started the better of the two sides. In the 7th minute Zac McEachran did well to and turn sharply and make room for a shot from 12 yards but Lloyd Irish in the Taunton goal saved low down to his right. Then two minutes later Michael Hopkins shot over the bar from 25 yards.

Banbury would though go ahead in the 15th minute when a free-kick for Taunton wide on the right was pumped into the Banbury penalty area but collected with ease by United goalkeeper Jack Harding who with Taunton having players forward immediately kicked the ball long down field with Felipe Barcelos using his pace to get ahead of Jamie Short and then slotting the ball past Irish from the edge of the six yard box.

In the 20th minute a corner from the left by Mark Bell saw Ricky Johnson head the ball at the far post back across the goal where an off balance Jack Westbrook on the six yard line could only kick the ball into the ground and it bounced up over the bar.

In the 29th minute a corner from Bell on the right saw the ball fall to Barcelos on the far edge of the penalty area but his fierce shot was deflected over the bar by Taunton defender Josh Searle.

However, United would take a deserved two goal lead in the 39th minute. Michael Hopkins knocked the ball down the left and with Barcelos chasing it, custodian Lloyd Irish and Rob Farkins then collided on the edge of the penalty area allowing Barcelos to collect the ball and take it inside and though his shot hit the post the ball ran to McEachran who made no mistake firing the ball home from 10 yards.

Though United were worthy of their two goal interval lead, Taunton were so close to pulling a goal back in stoppage time when a free-kick from the right taken by Dale Evans was headed against the bar by Jordan Rogers from 10 yards out with the ball rebounding back into the grateful hands of Harding.

The second half was very much uneventful but Taunton had much the better of this period. Despite their possession and probing though there were not too many moments of concern for a Banbury side that defended well. Banbury though had done enough in the first period to pick up the three points.

United now face Winchester City on Tuesday in a promotion play-off semi-final at the Spencer Stadium. If United win that then they would be at home to either Taunton Town or Swindon Supermarine in a play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May.
