This was a game that North Leigh dominated in the early stages with Banbury, playing up the slope, unable to get the ball out of their own half for most of the first ten minutes.
Having weathered the early storm though Banbury began to work their way into the game and at least make some forays into the Leigh half. In the 18th minute Leigh broke quickly from a Banbury free-kick pumped into the home penalty area but with defenders up, the ball quickly found its way down to the Banbury penalty area where Keiran Sanders in space shot over the bar from 15 yards when he should have done better.
In the 35th minute there was an almighty scramble deep inside the Banbury penalty area but no one was able to poke the ball home. However, within 60 seconds North Leigh would take a deserved lead when Sanders struck the ball superbly well from 20 yards into the top corner of the net.
It was a half time advantage that the home side fully deserved and though United had a decent amount of possession in this period it was in areas of the pitch that had not threatened the home side, with the North Leigh goalkeeper not having to make any saves of any note
United, now with the slope in their favour, were though much improved at the start of the second half. In the 55th minute a George Nash shot from 22 yards saw James Foster do well to tip the ball away for a corner low down to his left. Two minutes later Ricky Johnson did well to break through down the right hand side of the Leigh penalty area before laying the ball across to the incoming Darius Browne at the far post but the excellent chance was not taken as he blasted his shot over the bar from just six yards out.
Banbury continued now to create chances, On the hour mark Johnson shot just wide from the edge of the Leigh penalty area. Then in the 63rd minute a corner from the left taken by Zac McEachran was headed just inches over the bar by Charlie Wise from six yards out.
It looked as though Banbury might rue the missed opportunities as North Leigh at this point got back in control of the game. Certainly it might all have been over for United a quarter of an hour from time when Michael Hopkins for the home side hit the post but just two minutes later it was 1-1 when a short corner routine on the left involving McEachran and Browne saw the former's low cross struck home by the incoming Johnson from close range.
Both sides looked as though they might win it in the last quarter of an hour. North Leigh had the better of this period but some good defending and competent goalkeeping kept United on level terms and thus the first team this season to take a point or any points away from Eynsham Park.
